Henry Maksoud’s entrepreneurship and tireless pursuit of exceeding expectations led him to erect, in one of the most vibrant cities in the world, an iconic building that would become reference and synonymous with hospitality for the decades since its foundation.

It attracted diverse people, histories and cultures, all passionate about hospitality and meeting the daily challenge of welcoming, serving and making the hotel a home away from home.

Henry Maksoud would not settle for just something better. He pursued being the best in everything: from laundry to housekeeping, from bar to helipad and to the impeccable service, whether in the restaurant or in the parking lot. Locals, brazilians and expatriates from all over the world joined in the common desire of exceeding expectations, at a time when there was still no talk of brand experience, almost 40 years ago. Yesterday, today and tomorrow, The Maksoud Plaza is a common ground between generations, each with stories and great memories to convey to friends and family.

    Henry Maksoud Neto

    President, he has a degree in Economics from Universidade Mackenzie (Sao Paulo, Brazil), an executive MBA from Fundacao Armando Alvares Penteado FAAP (Sao Paulo, Brazil) with extension from the University of New Mexico (USA), and specialization in revenue management from Cornell University (USA). He joined Maksoud Plaza Hotel in 1991 as a kitchen helper; in 2002, he took over the hotel operations management; in 2014, he rose to the Presidency. He briefly left the business to join Merrill Lynch Bank as an assistant.

    Andre Marques

    Manager of Food & Beverage, 20 years of experience. He has worked with companies like Terraço Italia and Blue Tree Hotels (both in Brazil) and Valle Nevado Ski Resort (Chile).

    Fabiana Colossio

    Administrative/Financial Manager, 24 years of experience. He has a degree in Economics from Universidade Católica de Salvador (Bahia, Brazil) and post-graduation in Corporate Finance from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

    Paulo Aragão

    Revenue Manager, 13 years of experience. He has a bachelor degree in Tourism from Faculdade de Turismo da Bahia (Bahia, Brazil) and post-graduation in Business and Service Management from Universidade Mackenzie (Sao Paulo, Brazil). He has worked with the hotel groups Pestana, Iberostar and WorldMark (USA).

    Alex Neves

    Rooms Division Manager, 20 years of experience. Technical training in Accounting from Instituto Biblos (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), in Hotel Management from SENAC (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and in Interior Design from the Escola Panamericana de Arte e Design (Sao Paulo, Brazil). He has worked with Intercontinental Hotel Group - IHG, Atlântica Hotéis and Club Med.

    Antonio Basaglia

    HR Manager, 31 years of experience, has a degree in Business Administration with emphasis on foreign trade. He has worked with companies like Alcântara Machado, Bigburguer and Hospital Estadual de Diadema (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

    Jorge Sampaio

    Administrative/Financial Manager, 24 years of experience. He has a degree in Economics from Universidade Católica de Salvador (Bahia, Brazil) and post-graduation in Corporate Finance from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

    Valdir Barros

    Legal, 43 years of experience. He has a degree in Law from Faculdade de Direito de São Bernardo do Campo (Sao Paulo, Brazil). He has had his own law firm and has been with the publishing houses Editora Ática and Editora Scipione (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

    Andrea Brito

    Accounting Manager, 19 years of experience, she has a degree in Accounting from UNIESP Santo André (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and post-graduation in Controllership and Finance from Universidade Mackenzie (Sao Paulo, Brazil). He has worked with Grupo Cybelar and Samcil Assistência Médica (both Brazilian companies).

    Antonio Luiz Magalhães

    Purchasing Manager, 44 years of experience, he has a degree in Civil Engineering and a bachelor degree in Business Administration from Universidade Mackenzie (Sao Paulo, Brazil). He has worked with Hidroservice Engenharia and CESP (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

    Otavio Golin

    Operations Manager, 16 years experience. He has a degree in Hospitality Management and an executive MBA from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Sao Paulo, Brazil). He has worked with Blue Tree Hotels, Castro's Park Hotel and Rio Quente Resorts.

    Paulo Buratto

    IT manager, 40 years of experience. He has a degree in Electrical Engineering/Electronics and an MBA in Information Technology from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (Sao Paulo, Brazil). He has worked with companies like Varig and Sisco Computadores (Sao Paulo, Brazil).

We take pride in being in the memory of local people, whether because they were here to celebrate anniversaries or weddings, to meet with friends or, simply, to enjoy a cup of coffee. We are grateful to these generous people who include us in their best memories.

 

Our hotel has hosted royal princes, diplomats, politicians, rock stars, actors and singers, famous and anonymous people: here everyone is warmly welcomed by the Maksoud team.

 

The hotel was built on the grounds where once stood the first monastery of Benedictine Nuns in the Americas. This was the harbinger of what would guide our history: to serve with love.

THE VERY BEGINNING

VISIT OF A NOBEL AND GASTRONOMY

> 1988: Albert B. Sabin, a Nobel Prize in Medicine, stays at the hotel.

> Panam Club opens at the top of the hotel, with a 360º view of the city of Sao Paulo.

 

> The Frank Bar opens in the hotel lobby, named after Frank Sinatra. Soon it becomes famous for the drinks prepared by the award-winning bartender Spencer Jr. and his team. Época (a Brazilian magazine) elects it The Best Bar of Sao Paulo.

 

> Maksoud Plaza and Accor form a commercial partnership by which the French chain will make the hotel available on its worldwide reservation system.
